UPDATE: Shooting in Delta Hotel parking lot, police are looking for suspects

MOUNT PLEASANT — A shooting Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of the Delta by Marriott hotel across from JI Case High School injured a man and closed the school for about an hour.

Mount Pleasant Police responded at 1:12 p.m. September 28, to a report of gunshots. According to an MPPD press release, they found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound. He was airlifted to Ascension-All Saints before being airlifted to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life in serious but stable condition.

A brief statement about the department Facebook page confirmed there had been a shooting in the Delta Hotel parking lot and asked the public to avoid the area.

Rescue personnel from flight for life loaded the victim into the helicopter at 2 p.m. and took off for Froedtert Hospital at 2:02 p.m.

“I came home sick. I heard from the secretary that there was a lockdown,” said Case choir teacher Elizabeth Steege. “I’m so worried.”

A source inside the school told Racine County Eye that police are looking for two suspects.

Shortly after, Racine Unified School District notified parents on its Facebook page that pick-up time would be as usual at 2:48 p.m. Students and buses would be sent south of the parking lot to avoid police presence. .
