Search resumes for missing man after woman’s body found at Lake Macquarie

A search will continue this morning for a missing man near Lake Macquarie, after the body of a woman was found in the waters yesterday.

At approximately 2.30pm (Monday July 25, 2022) emergency services were called to Moonee Beach, Lake Macquarie, after a body was found in the water.

A woman was treated at the scene; however, she could not be revived.

Although the woman has not yet been officially identified, she is believed to be around 80 years old.

Officers attached to the Lake Macquarie Police District attended the scene and established a crime scene.

After investigation, police believe a man – who is known to the woman and believed to have been with her yesterday – may be missing in nearby waters.

A search began for the man yesterday and included local police, officers from Marine Area Command, paramedics from Surf Life Saving NSW and NSW.

A large-scale terrestrial and aquatic search will continue today in the Moonee Beach area.

A report will be prepared for the coroner’s information.
