Search for missing Vero Beach boater continues off Brevard County coast

MELBOURNE BEACH, Florida. – Search and rescue efforts for the man whose boat was found on Melbourne Beach on Wednesday night continued into Friday night, according to updates from the US Coast Guard.

Dale Hossfield, 68, of Vero Beach, was reportedly in the Fort Pierce Inlet area around 2 p.m. Wednesday, the Coast Guard said in a statement. At 5:45 p.m., USCG observers were informed that Hossfield’s 29-foot boat had run aground with its engines still running. Some of his personal belongings were still inside, including his wallet and cellphone.

At least seven USCG crews took to the water and air first to search for Hossfield, along with crews from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, according to a statement from hurry.

The US Coast Guard said Dale Hossfield was not seen, but his 29-foot boat was found on the beach Wednesday night.
