Reports of another case of rape and murder in search of Rushane Patterson

Reports are surfacing that Rushane Patterson was detained by police five months ago after he allegedly absconded on bail in a case where he was being investigated for murder and rape.

This is nine years after a judge dismissed a similar case against the 33-year-old. In the 2013 case, Patterson was investigated for rape, kidnapping and murder. Reports say the case was dismissed because the witness did not show up.

Checks by Loop News discovered that following this 2013 development, Patterson was reportedly detained by officials in Lucea in May 2022, after sending a warning, calling on him to surrender to answer a rape and murder case.

A senior police official in that parish has since confirmed the information and said Loop News that the case, at the time, was then transferred to the Espace Entreprises and Patterson was due to appear in Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

The revelation left several social media users wondering what happened in the meantime, as five months later Patterson is at the center of another investigation and has been named a person of interest in a case where the body of a social media influencer has been found. on a beach in St James.

Reports are also circulating that Patterson, who was given until Saturday, October 22 at 5:00 p.m. to surrender to police, may have fled the island.

Senior members of the police high command, however, denied reports that Patterson had recently booked a flight and left the island via one of the international airports.

In the case in 2013, a judge dismissed a case against Patterson after prosecutors admitted they could not find the main witness.

Allegations have been raised that on February 9, 2013, a woman and her partner were walking along Cargill Avenue in St Andrew when they were accosted by men in a motor vehicle.

The couple were held at gunpoint. The male victim was placed in the trunk of the vehicle and was later shot and killed when he jumped from the moving vehicle in an attempt to escape.

The woman was taken to a place where she was raped and her throat was slit.

She was left for dead, but survived and reported the matter to the Half-Way-Tree Police.

Following an investigation, Patterson was detained at Half-Way-Tree Square in 2014. He was later reported on an identification parade.

The case was dropped after the Crown had time to locate the witness, but they did not. The judge then dismissed the case.
