Police share new surveillance photos as search for missing teenager continues

California authorities reported that 16-year-old Kiely Rodni went missing on Sunday, August 6. They have revealed a new image of the missing teenager captured from surveillance video at a Truckee business. Rodni disappeared just hours after attending a camping party in California.

On August 5 at 6:08 p.m., Kiely was seen in the video wearing an outfit consistent with testimonials. It has been four days since Kiely, 16, was last seen in Truckee near the Prosser Family Campground around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

As seen in the snap revealed by authorities, Kiely Rodni was dressed in green Dickies pants and a black spaghetti strap bodysuit. Officials provided more details about the missing girl, noting that:

“She was last seen wearing a black spaghetti strap bodysuit, green Dickies pants with a black eyelet belt and black Vans shoes.”

Authorities also reported that the teenager’s cellphone was last sent on August 6, “33 minutes after midnight”. Below is the latest order update from Nevada County and Placer County officials:


More details on the disappearance of Kiely Rodni

The Placer County Sheriff’s Department believes Kiely Rodni may have been abducted. Due to the fact that Kiely’s silver 2013 Honda CRV is also missing, police are investigating its absence as a possible case of kidnapping.

A spokesperson for the Placer County Sheriff said the following in an interview with neighborhood radio station KTXL:

“(We) are treating his disappearance as a kidnapping because we haven’t located his vehicle yet.”

Lindsay Nieman-Rodni, Kiely’s mother, told sources her daughter contacted her around midnight to let her know she would be leaving the party in about 45 minutes. She says:

“I told her to be safe and that I love her. And she said, ‘OK, mom, I love you too.’ She never came home.”

Her mother added:

“We just want her to come home. We’re so scared and we miss her so much and we love her so much…Kiely, we love you, and if you see this, please come home. I want nothing more than to cuddle you.”

Additionally, Lindsey Rodni-Nieman said finding Kiely was her top priority before catching anyone who might be connected to the case. She explained:

“We’re not looking to arrest anyone else or get anyone in trouble. We just want to see our daughter home.”

Samantha Smith, Kiely’s 18-year-old friend, told The Independent she last spoke to Kiely at 12.36am on Saturday. Samantha revealed on Monday:

“That was the last call anyone had with her. We were like ‘I love you, good night’. Go home safe,” and that was the last thing we heard of her.”

According to a representative from the sheriff’s office, Kiely’s phone was cut off just after midnight.


Reportedly, celebrity Gwyneth Paltrow shared a flyer on her Instagram story, alerting her to the case’s more than eight million Instagram followers and using her social media to raise awareness of the quest. This led to a significant development in the search for missing teenager Kiely Rodni.

The Placer Sheriff’s Office is working with the FBI, Homeland Security, California Highway Patrol, and a number of other regional law enforcement organizations to find Kiley. Since his disappearance, more than 77 investigators have searched the area, both on the ground and in the air. Additionally, K-9 units are also engaged.
