Police Charge Teen After Search Warrants – Operation Western Mongoose

A teenager will appear in court today charged with firearms offenses in ongoing investigations in the northeast of the state.

Operation Western Mongoose was established in April this year to investigate property crime and vehicle theft throughout the Oxley Police District.

As part of the investigations, officers attached to Operation Western Mongoose executed two search warrants at homes in Cossa and Green streets, West Tamworth, just after 9am today (Wednesday 31st August 2022).

Police located and seized an air rifle and cell phones.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested in Green Street and taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and not a pistol or a prohibited firearm.

The teenager was refused bail to appear in juvenile court today (Wednesday August 31, 2022).

Investigations will continue as part of Operation Western Mongoose.

Operation Western Mongoose consists of officers from the Proactive Crime Team, Detectives, Oxley Police District Crime Prevention Unit, Law Enforcement Squad from the Western Region, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Youth Command and Canine Unit.
