No policeman should stop and search the mufti -IGP

Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has frowned upon the flagrant violation of the approved Nigerian Police dress code by officers in patrol and guard, stop and search and other routine police operations; who have taken to wearing t-shirts and caps with “Special Forces”, “Commando”, “Gallant MOPOL”, “SCORPION” and other inscriptions during their service.

Based on this, the IGP ordered an immediate ban on these unapproved garments, Force PRO, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Friday.

He said: “The IGP has called the use of unapproved clothing unacceptable, noting that uniforms, which are a means of identification, have been abused by these officers who dress inappropriately. He also speaks out against the fear this unhealthy practice creates in the minds of innocent Nigerians. The IGP therefore ordered that henceforth all police assigned to patrols, stop and searches, checkpoints and other routine operational tasks wear approved uniforms for easy identification.

“As a result, the IGP has directed all Police Disciplinary Units, in particular the Force Provost Marshal, IGP X-Squad and Oversight Unit, to ensure strict enforcement of the directive with severe penalties for offending agents. The IGP also warned that all supervisory officers will be held vicariously liable in the event that personnel under their command violate this order.

“The Inspector General of Police assured well-meaning members of the public that the leadership of the Force is committed to promoting strategic police reforms aimed at sanitizing operational commitments and bequeathing the nation a professional policing system. , if needed.”
