Multi-agency search for missing diver in Mukilteo
MUKILTEO, Washington, June 17, 2022 – Today, around 9.15 a.m., the Mukilteo Police Department (MPD) and the Mukilteo Fire Department responded to a call from a diver in distress at Lighthouse Park. According to the MPD press release, two recreational divers entered the water together, but only one emerged, a 33-year-old man from Everett. This sparked a multi-agency response and the search for the missing diver, a 33-year-old man from Edmonds, began.
Coast Guard, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, Everett Police, Everett Fire Department, Mountlake Terrace Police, Marysville Police and Washington State Ferries have established a unified command and worked together in the search. Several search and rescue boats from various agencies were used along with a Coast Guard helicopter and several unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
Due to inclement weather causing poor visibility in and around the water, the Coast Guard suspended its search at 4:00 p.m. Tomorrow, Saturday, June 18, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team will continue the search with additional resources.
The MPD press release confirms that the family of the missing diver has been notified and there are no further details at the time of this report.
The last time a search for a missing person was carried out in the waters surrounding Lighthouse Park in Mukilteo on January 9, 2020, when a man fell from his inflatable raft after capsizing approximately 75 meters from shore. Several lifeboats, several divers and a Coast Guard helicopter all assisted in the search until after dark. The man’s body washed ashore a few hours later. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office determined He drowned.
