How to Search Google Sheets on Any Platform

How to search in Google Sheets?

Searching for something in Google Sheets is extremely easy. You can search for data on the web and app versions of Google Sheets. Moreover, you can even exchange the value with another value.

Using the Find Function

You can use the To find feature on Google Sheets to locate a set value from your current sheets or all sheets. This is a built-in feature for all of Google Workspace, including Sheets. Follow these instructions to find information in Google Sheets:

On the website

If you prefer to view your data from your PC/Mac, you can use the web version of Google Sheets. Here’s how to find information using the web version of Google Sheets:

  1. Open your browser.
  2. In the search bar, navigate to Web spreadsheet.
  3. Sign in to Google Sheets with your Google account credentials.
  4. When you arrive on the home page, search for the document by entering its name in the search bar.
  5. If you are unsure of the sheet name, select the drop-down menu under sheet templates in the middle to locate your sheet. Select either:
  • Owned by anyone: If you don’t know who created this sheet, select this option. However, this will show all the sheets you have created or owned.
  • Owned by me: When you select this option, the page will only display the sheets you have created.
  • don’t belong to me: This will filter out all the sheets you have created.

On mobile app

If you have a mobile/tablet to view your sheets, use the mobile app version of Google Sheets. You can download the app at play store for Android and Apple Store for iOS/iPadOS. Here’s how you can browse your document to locate exact information on the Google Sheets app:

  1. Open the app to Google Sheets.
  2. Sign in to Google Sheets with your Google account credentials.
  3. From the homepage, enter the name of your spreadsheet in the search bar at the top.
  4. If you want to browse your sheets, select the option to your left below the search bar. Select either:
    • Last name: All the sheets will be displayed in ascending order according to their alphabetical order.
    • Last modification: Sheets will be sorted by those most recently modified by someone.
    • Last edited by me: Sheets move up from the ones you last modified.
    • Last opened by me: The sheets you have recently opened will be displayed at the top and will rise accordingly.

Using Find and Replace

You can even replace information on Google Sheets with something completely different. Did you make a mistake in the spelling of a client? You can first use the Find and Replace feature to locate the word and then swap it with something else. You can use this feature in both web and app versions of Google Sheets.

On the website

You can use the web version of Google Sheets to swap an existing value with a new value. First, use the To find & Replace feature to locate existing information on Sheets. Please refer to the steps above for the Find and replace characteristic.

Once you locate the value you want to replace, follow these steps:

  1. Select vertical Three-dot menu on the window. You can also use the CTRL + H shortcut for Windows and (Ordered) +Gap + H for Mac.
  2. In the new window, type the current value you want to replace next to To find.

  4. If you only want to trade the selected value, select Replace.
  5. If you want to swap all existing values, select replace all.

On mobile app

You can further customize your search experience on the web version of Google Sheets. For example, you can make the leaves match the case (uppercase or lowercase) of the keyword you typed on the To find option to the information in the spreadsheet.

You can use this feature if you accidentally used lowercase for names in some fields. You can locate specific lowercase values ​​and change their initials to uppercase. Likewise, here are some other Google Sheets search options:
