Gunmen kidnap Plateau monarch, locals search for victim
Gunmen on motorbikes reportedly abducted a traditional leader in Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Locals said the traditional leader identified as His Royal Highness, Dauda Mohammed Suleiman, was abducted when the gunmen attacked his palace in the Pinau community of the council area on Monday night.
A resident of Wase town and chairman of the Wase LGA Democratic Action Congress, Hon. Abdullahi Gadole, confirmed the kidnapping of the monarch at the PUNCH in Jos on Tuesday.
Gadole said that since the traditional leader was taken to an unknown destination, people in the community have been looking for him without success.
Gadole said: “It was yesterday (Monday) that he was kidnapped. They (the kidnappers) rode their motorbikes to his house in the community of Pinau and abducted the traditional chief. Since then, we have not seen him again and his captors have not contacted anyone to find out what they want.
“But, people in the community have kept looking for him but are just left confused not knowing what to do about the situation.”
Plateau State Police Command spokesman Alabo Alfred did not return calls when contacted about the incident at the time of filing this report.
The PUNCH had reported that the State Peacekeeping Military Task Force had earlier last month carried out a clearance operation at Wase LGA aimed at clearing the area of the council of bandits.
During the multi-day operation, eight of the bandits who had terrorized local communities over the past few months were killed, as confirmed by Military Information Officer, Operation Safe Haven, Major Ishaku Takwa.
