High-quality product content on our website is a key part of creating a seamless shopping experience for our customers – helping them make more informed decisions and inspiring them with well-written copy, accurate specifications and beautiful visuals.

We are looking for a full-time eCommerce Content Team Manager to lead our internal content team and help translate our vision into reality.

What does your role look like

As the eCommerce Content Team Manager, you will be responsible for the content team’s growth, goals, production, work schedule, hiring, and HR functions. By working closely with more senior team members and other business stakeholders, you will help set the standard, tone and direction for team processes and projects.

The role involves:

  • Own our product content processes, encourage and give your team the tools and space to perform at their best, and communicate a cohesive view of what that looks like
  • Support your team with peer-to-peer learning and constructive feedback to encourage a positive growth environment
  • Create clear lines of communication between your team and internal stakeholders
  • Identify skills gaps within your team and lead a structured recruitment strategy

Who are you

In addition to having the talent and experience necessary for the position, we are looking for someone who is, above all, inward-looking and who comes alive when helping others to be their best and to do their best.

For you, working on complex problems for hours feels like minutes and you have fun figuring out how to improve processes. You know how to deliver high-quality content on the web and you understand its importance for businesses. Details are important to you, but you are also able to explain things simply.

You are an excellent communicator (both in person and asynchronously via email or chat), work well independently and collaboratively, and lead others with compassion and confidence. People would also describe you as:

  • Calm and confident
  • Care
  • Well informed
  • Observer
  • Efficient

What experience and skills do you need for the position

Live:

  • Obligatory:
    • At least 7 years of professional experience in a high-performance, high-quality content creation environment – for example, working for a newspaper, magazine, technical writing or high readership online publication; or working in an advertising/branding agency environment
    • At least 3 years of experience managing people in this environment
  • Benefit: Working for an e-tailer in a similar role

Qualifications:

  • Required: Relevant work experience and proof of this in the form of a project case study and/or portfolio
  • Advantage: An undergraduate degree (Bachelor’s) in English, writing or journalism, or something similar (design, marketing, communications) would be advantageous

Skills:

  • Strong and empathetic management skills to lead a team of content creators
  • Knowledge of management theory and practical applications in the workplace
  • Proactive and strong critical and strategic thinking skills, particularly around the role of content in business/e-commerce operations
  • Strong process/systems thinking skills – able to envision and articulate how to get something done end-to-end, all the steps along the way, and what tools and resources would be needed to get it done
  • An ability to make valuable calls on conflicting priorities of multiple teams, communicate benefits and trade-offs, and help groups of people reach consensus on what success looks like
  • Strong understanding of how to deliver high quality content (text, images and video etc.) on the web

Who you will work with

You will work alongside our writers, photographers and content experts. We write all of our product copy, and style, shoot, and edit everything in-house, grafting hard, collaborating, communicating openly and constantly, moving ideas along fairly quickly, and meeting deadlines. Sometimes it comes with pressure, but we all love what we do and have a lot of fun doing it. We’re also into things like pets, gin, coffee, series, and cakes (basically all baked goods).

Environment, equipment, salary and benefits

Materials you will use:

  • A MacBook
  • Various online packages, reporting tools and dashboards?

Environment:

  • We are a mostly in-person team, in the office. Most of your time will be spent in our headquarters offices in Westlake, but you will have some flexibility in this regard.
  • On days when you’re working from home or working remotely, you’ll need your own stable high-speed internet connection and a suitable workspace setup.

    • Group life insurance
    • Retirement pension
    • Employee Assistance Program
