The Coast Guard on Sunday suspended its search for a 35-year-old fisherman who disappeared Saturday off South Padre Island, Texas.
Coast Guard crews searched approximately 1,903 square miles for more than 32 hours combined.
Watchmen at the Corpus Christi Coast Guard Sector Command Center received a call Saturday at 5 a.m. on VHF-FM channel 16 from the captain of the 65-foot commercial fishing vessel Santa Fe that one of its members crew was missing 35 miles off Land Cut. The man was apparently not wearing a life jacket at the time of his disappearance.
Watchstanders issued an urgent maritime information broadcast and launched crews of MH-65 Dolphin helicopters and HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi and a Coast Guard station of South Padre Island crew of 33ft special purpose law enforcement boats to search for fisherman.
