Coast Guard ends search for missing man near Corpus Christi, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard ended its search for a missing man who fell from a rig near Corpus Christi on Saturday.

At 5:30 p.m., commercial divers reported finding a body matching the man’s description near the rig.

Corpus Christi Coast Guard Sector Command Center shift officers received a call at 1:45 p.m. from Corpus Christi Police Department personnel that a scaffold had fallen from a rig at Kiewit Offshore Services and entered the water in the La Quinta Channel. The on-site security officer reported that the man had not surfaced and had been missing for 15 minutes.

Observers broadcast an urgent maritime information broadcast and hijacked an airborne MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi and an underway 29-foot response boat – Small Crew from Air Station Corpus Christi the Port Aransas Coast Guard to conduct a search.
