Boater recovered from the water, the search resumes for others

The Cayman Islands Coast Guard said it was resuming search and rescue operations on Saturday after a man was rescued on Friday April 22 from a capsized vessel.

Just after 9 a.m. Friday, the Cayman Islands Coast Guard (CICG) Operations and Rescue Command Center (ORCC) was notified of floating packages in the general area of ​​Governor’s Harbor Channel, according to a police press release.

The CICG, assisted by the Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS), deployed in the area, recovered a package and began their search.

Several other packages were recovered between Star Fish Point in North Side and Barkers in West Bay.

The press release did not specify what was in the packages.

While conducting the search in the Blowers area just after 1pm on Friday, officers aboard a CIFS vessel located the man floating among several packages.

The man was recovered and immediately administered first aid, the statement said. He was brought ashore where he was then taken by ambulance to hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment.

Additional efforts were made by the Cayman Islands Coast Guard, CIFS and the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) helicopter to locate other people believed to be on board the capsized vessel.

However, no further observations were made.

Efforts were suspended at 5 p.m. Friday. The search resumed on Saturday, police said.
